Algorithms without borders |

If we refer to the concept algorithm (a finite set of instructions or steps to accomplish a task) and to its possibilities inside the musical field, we should start from the fact that the traditional musical scores, which means, a group of symbols translated into sounds or music (according to the instrument) when read by the musician, has been the most used algorithm ever. So, with the appereance of new tools and methods, how can we contribute to the creativity and music?
For example, we can let the algorithm produce by itself the musical theme, so we will have the chance to listen to a composition as a result of "mathematical inspiration". In such a way and using the timbrical possibilities of sounds generators, a new aesthetic concept is produced.
On the other hand, if we pay attention to the conceptual line developed through all this time, to express ourselves through the sound, we will see first that prehistoric men already used their bodies to produce sounds (beating the cheast with their hands or producing sounds with their vocal chords). Later came the flute, the lyre, the piano and the scores. Then the first electronic instruments appeared, the software and the interface (MIDI keyboard, computer keyboard, an other devices) until the sound started being combined with images, which were used at the same time to interact or modify parameters. Then something happened: for wrinting an understanding music first it was necessary to define a world to belong to classical music, jazz, rock, or experimental music to find new experiences. According to this last point, new possibilities for sound generation and music composition, new ways to create and talk about new instruments, is what Technoplayer propose. In other words a wide range of possibilities to interact and at the same time create music. This time the purpose is not the composition itself, but what the device tries to generate in the performer's mind, in order to develop his creativity and perhaps to derive into other concepts and musical results contributing to find new ways to expand the borders of music. The project is developed by Chaotic Music Technologies and if you visit their website: www.chaoticmusic.com you will listen to musical excerpts generated by this device together with some other information I consider interesting for those seeking to find new borders.
